TNT Tropang Giga Bounce Back with Shooting in Game 2 | PBA Governors Cup Finals 2023
On Wednesday, the TNT Tropang Giga put on an impressive basketball display as they defeated the Barangay Ginebra Kings 95-82 in Game 2 of the PBA Governors’ Cup Finals at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
After struggling with their shooting in Game 1, the Tropa fired on all cylinders and hit 15-of-35 three-pointers. It was a huge turnaround from their previous game, where they only shot 9-of-35 from beyond the arc.
Calvin Oftana, Mikee Williams, RR Pogoy, Glenn Khobuntin, and Jayson Castro were all instrumental in TNT’s victory, contributing at least two treys each. Their shooting barrage was led by Williams, who hit five three-pointers on his way to 21 points.
TNT coach Jojo Lastimosa praised his team’s effort, saying they had decided to put their Game 1 defeat behind them and come out strong in the second game. He also credited Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, who had an impressive near triple-double match with 23 points, 19 rebounds, and nine assists.
Despite Poy Erram’s early foul trouble, TNT managed to maintain their lead throughout the game. The team’s strong performance was helped by a 13-0 endgame run that sealed the win for the Tropa.
On the other hand, the Kings struggled to find their rhythm throughout the game. Justin Brownlee scored only 12 points and had a woeful 2-of-12 field-goal clip, while Christian Standhardinger carried the team with 29 points and 11 rebounds.
TNT took an early lead in the game, with a hot start in the opening quarter highlighted by five three-pointers from Williams, Jefferson, Castro, and Khobuntin. They led by as much as 16 points before settling for a 51-39 lead at halftime.
The Tropa’s dominant performance and impressive shooting helped them level the series at 1-1. With Game 3 coming up, both teams will be looking to gain the upper hand and take a step closer to winning the PBA Governors’ Cup.
