“We are not involved in that; it’s just speculation,” Guiao stated, highlighting the main reason why he prefers to avoid any involvement in discussions about Ahanmisi.

“We have young guards whom we believe we can develop. We will be patient with them,” Guiao explained. “That’s why we don’t want to complicate matters.”

Rumors have circulated that Rain or Shine is among the potential destinations for Ahanmisi following the expiration of his last contract with Converge. This one-year deal ended on June 6.

Selected as the third overall pick in the 2015 draft, Ahanmisi, who will turn 32 next month, became an unrestricted free agent, a privilege granted to players who have spent seven years in the league.

Reports suggest that negotiations between the FiberXers management and Ahanmisi’s representatives have yet to reach an agreement, fueling further speculation.

The rumor mill has also entertained the possibility of the Filipino-Nigerian player, born in the United States, pursuing opportunities abroad or potentially joining one of the teams under the San Miguel Corp. umbrella.
There have even been whispers of a potential reunion with Guiao, who, while still at the helm of Rain or Shine, drafted Ahanmisi ahead of other guards such as Scottie Thompson and Chris Newsome.

The two of them previously won a championship together during the 2016 Commissioner’s Cup. Still, Guiao was quick to emphasize his satisfaction with the performance of his current backcourt players, including Rey Nambatac, Anton Asistio, Andrei Caracut, and Gian Mamuyac.

According to Guiao, reconnecting with Ahanmisi would only be considered if the player takes the initiative.

“If he approaches us, it’s possible,” Guiao said. “After all, we have a shared history and had good times together. We even won a championship. But otherwise, we’ll focus on our path.”
