Phoenix Soars High Preparing for Christmas Clash

Phoenix Soars High - Preparing for Christmas Clash with SMB

With a 7-1 record and a six-game winning run, the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters is emerging as one of the most surprising success stories in the 2023 Commissioner’s Cup. Despite not having remarkable statistics in certain team areas, such as leading the league in blocks per game or having the second-best field goal %, the Fuel Masters have discovered a winning formula that goes beyond the stats.

The Fuel Masters showed perseverance and depth in their recent triumph over the North Batang Pier. Even without the services of Jason Perkins, they rallied in the fourth quarter to win 113-104. This win demonstrated the team’s adaptability, with role players stepping up without essential contributors. Import Johnathan Williams III was instrumental, scoring 38 points and nearly missing a triple-double by one assist.

“We weren’t on the same page at the beginning, and we hunkered down on defense in the second half,” said assistant coach Jon Jacinto of the team’s collaborative effort. We felt Perk’s absence, but all our guys stood up.”

Head coach Jamike Jarin stressed the team’s unselfish mentality while applauding Williams for his efficiency and leadership. Despite reports of other clubs’ interest, Williams has proven to be a helpful asset and a fantastic fit for the Fuel Masters’ youthful lineup.

Looking ahead, the Fuel Masters will have a tough battle against the San Miguel Beermen on Christmas Day. The Beermen, who have won two consecutive games and recently added Don Trollano to their lineup, are a dangerous opponent. Coach Jarin emphasized improving their performance, especially after a shaky start versus NorthPort.

Playing on Christmas Day, usually reserved for high-profile games, adds a new level to the task for the young Fuel Masters. Assistant coach Jacinto highlighted the team’s professionalism: “We’re all professionals, and regardless of whether it’s Christmas, we have to do our job.”

Coach Jarin advised his squad to be calm and focused, recognizing the next challenging series of games against the Meralco Bolts and TNT Tropang Giga. While a lengthy playoff run is on the horizon, he highlighted the importance of taking each game seriously and maintaining a competitive attitude.

As the Fuel Masters prepare for their future games, including a Christmas Day showdown with the Beermen, the emphasis remains on constant growth and being grounded during their outstanding Commissioner’s Cup run.
