Abueva-Tautuaa Altercation - PBA Summoned for Clarification
Following the dramatic Commissioner’s Cup finals game on Sunday, February 4, the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is trying to determine the truth about the post-game confrontation between Calvin Abueva-Tautuaa Altercation, and their respective spouses. PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial revealed on Monday, February 5, that the league intends to review footage and interview witnesses during the heated discussion.
Commissioner Marcial stressed the need for complete knowledge of the situation in a hallway near the Mall of Asia Arena’s exit. He indicated that Calvin Abueva and Mo Tautuaa will be summoned to share their viewpoints.
“We’ll look at the videos and talk to people who witnessed the incident,” Marcial said in Filipino. “I’ll meet with my technical group, and I need to talk to the two players.”
The dispute erupted right after San Miguel triumphed over Magnolia with a score of 109-85, thereby gaining a 2-0 advantage in the best-of-seven series. Aida, Mo Tautuaa’s wife, felt insulted when she noticed Abueva smirking and chuckling at her. This sparked a fiery argument between the two athletes and their wives.
While the scene seemed to quiet down after Abueva appeared to leave the event, emotions rose again when he reappeared with his wife, Sam, to confront the Tautuaas. Abueva even went so far as to challenge Tautuaa to a fistfight before cooler heads prevailed.
The PBA’s decision to summon the involved parties underlines the league’s dedication to conducting a thorough and impartial investigation to uncover the events leading to the altercation. As the league scrutinizes the footage and evaluates witness accounts, it aims to reach a just and appropriate resolution to this regrettable incident.
