Johnathan Williams and Tyler Bey Compete for PBA Best Import Honors
In a fierce fight for the coveted Best Import honors in the PBA Season 48th Commissioner’s Cup, Johnathan Williams of Phoenix Super LPG and Tyler Bey of Magnolia will go all out on the floor.
Williams is now ranked fourth in the statistical race, earning an incredible 53.6 points by demonstrating his all-around abilities. Williams, who averaged 27.0 points, 15.6 rebounds, 5.5 assists, 0.9 steals, and 1.4 blocks, was instrumental in Phoenix’s eight-game winning streak before the playoffs began.
Tyler Bey is just behind Williams, sitting sixth with 51.9 SPs. Bey’s outstanding performance included averaging 27.6 points, 14.1 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 2.3 steals, and 1.1 blocks per game, propelling Magnolia to first place at the end of the eliminations with an incredible 9-2 win-loss mark.
Although Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson of TNT (67.5), Bennie Boatwright of San Miguel (67.3), and Shonn Miller of Meralco (55.0) had the most statistical points, they are ineligible for the Best Import title since they did not play in at least 70% of their team’s games.
DeAndre Williams-Baldwin of NLEX, finishing sixth ahead of Bey, falls short of the 70% mark.
While Rain or Shine’s Tree Treadwell now holds the seventh slot with 50.4 SPs, the Elasto Painters may be eligible if they continue to compete in additional games this conference.
Venky Jois of NorthPort (49.4), Tony Bishop of Barangay Ginebra (46.5), Jamil Wilson of Converge (45.8), Chris Ortiz of Blackwater (40.8), and Thomas De Thaey of Terrafirma (32.5) are the remaining Best Import hopefuls, adding to the excitement of an already tight race. The competition for Best Import honors promises to be an exciting sight, with each player hoping to make their place in PBA history.
