SMB Sweep Ginebra and Secure PBA Finals Berth!
In a triumphant return to the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals, the San Miguel Beermen proved their supremacy by defeating Barangay Ginebra San Miguel 94-91 in Game 3. On a thrilling Sunday, the game occurred before a raucous crowd of 15,126 people at the MOA Arena in Pasay City, Philippines.
Bennie Boatwright emerged as the Beermen’s hero, shattering the hearts of Barangay Ginebra with his spectacular performance. Boatwright finished with 26 points and 13 rebounds, hitting 6 of 12 three-pointers. The Beermen defeated Ginebra in three games, claiming a berth in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals.
Despite a close struggle in the first 30 minutes, the Beermen took control in the fourth quarter. A late charge, capped by a crucial three-pointer by CJ Perez at 4:48, drove SMB to a comfortable 90-79 advantage.
Ginebra attempted a comeback with Scottie Thompson, Japeth Aguilar, and Christian Standhardinger, who cut the lead to three points with 39.7 seconds left. However, the Beermen held fast, sealing their triumph and waving farewell to Ginebra in the Commissioners Cup.
With their sights set on the title, the San Miguel Beermen are now waiting for the results of the semifinal series between the Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots and the Phoenix Super LPG Fuel Masters.
This is the Beermen’s 44th participation in the PBA Finals, cementing their place in Philippine basketball history. Furthermore, the victory is sweet redemption for San Miguel, as they revenge their 2022-23 Governors’ Cup semifinal loss to Ginebra, who had previously swept them in three games. The Beermen are now determined to win the Commissioner’s Cup and add another memorable chapter to their legendary PBA career.
