Ros Defeat Magnolia

Rain or Shine Wipes Away Magnolia's Perfection: Unbeaten Streak Takes a Dip!

Magnolia’s perfect record ended in a nail-biting PBA Commissioner’s Cup matchup against Rain or Shine at the Aquilino Pimentel Jr. International Convention Center in Cagayan de Oro City. Saturday’s hard-fought 113-110 triumph was the Elasto Painters’ third straight win following a difficult conference start that saw them lose five consecutive games, all of which came after newcomer Demetrius Treadwell replaced Dajuan Summers.

Treadwell’s performance in his fourth game was exceptional; he scored thirty points, pulled down sixteen rebounds, and disheveled nine assists. With the help of a solid team effort, three more Rain or Shine players scored ten or more. Andrei Caracut showed off his skills with 15 points and six assists, rookie Keith Datu scored 14 points on a perfect 4-of-4 shooting from beyond the arc, and Santi Santillan contributed 11 vital points.

The Hotshots still lead the standings and have guaranteed a trip to the semifinals, but the win was more noteworthy because it ended Magnolia’s remarkable 7-0 conference start. Magnolia had won 18 straight games, including the PBA On Tour, without losing a game since the previous season’s Governors’ Cup quarterfinals. However, those victories are not included in the official PBA statistics.

The game’s intensity reached a height when Rain or Shine was down 108-104, but they rallied to win. With just 1:19 remaining in the game, Rain or Shine led 110-108 with two baskets from Keith Datu and Santi Santillan, who both made clutch three-pointers. Demetrius Treadwell masterfully directed the play.

Rain or Shine maintained their composure in the face of a late Magnolia charge, making clutch free throws to seal a 113-110 victory. Magnolia missed an opportunity to tie the game with a three-pointer with seconds remaining due to confusion in the closing seconds.

Rain or Shine prevailed in the end, scoring 113-110.

Paul Lee scored 22 points, Mark Barroca scored 20, and Tyler Bey scored 30 points for Magnolia, among the standout performances. But in a game that will be remembered for its ferocity and late-game heroics, Rain or Shine’s team effort, led by Treadwell, finally sealed the win.
