Kyt Jimenez, the surprise revelation of the 2023 PBA Rookie Draft, has defied expectations by signing a significant two-year contract with San Miguel, making him the draft’s lowest pick to sign a contract. The signing ceremony for the 5-foot-11 YouTube phenomenon took place on Tuesday, with his agent, Danny Espiritu, and club manager, Gee Abanilla, in attendance.

Jimenez’s incredible accomplishment originates from his selection in the sixth round or below, making him the ultimate underdog success story of this draft. Jimenez, who hails from Perpetual, has spent the last two years honing his abilities while playing professionally in the MPBL. He worked for both Sarangani and Gen San. Jimenez demonstrated his flexibility with the Marlins, averaging 17.2 points, 7.6 rebounds, 4.7 assists, and 2.8 steals per game. His stellar play continued with the Warriors, as he averaged 7.0 points, 5.1 rebounds, 3.7 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.
Another significant news for San Miguel is the signing of Troy Mallillin, who was drafted with the 35th overall pick. Mallillin, like Jimenez, has signed a two-year deal with the team.
While these additions give San Miguel hope, the future of Ichie Altamirano, the 57th overall pick, still needs to be discovered since it has yet to be announced whether he has concluded his contract with the organization.
On the other hand, San Miguel chose not to issue offers to numerous players, including Jayson Apolonio, Jayvee Dela Cruz, Jamel Ramos, and JBoy Gob, indicating a cautious stance as they form their team for the 2018 season.
