James Yap Bids Farewell to Rain or Shine: A New Chapter Begins
James Yap, a two-time PBA MVP, has officially ended his seven-year career with the Rain or Shine team. The team’s administration, led by Raymund Yu and Terry Que, approved the experienced basketball player’s release request. The 41-year-old Yap expressed thanks for his stint with the Elasto Painters but made no intentions of retiring, leaving the door open for future chances with other PBA teams.
In a statement, Yap thanked Rain or Shine management and fans for their support during his stay. The seasoned player recognized the seven-time champion franchise, including their grand slam title in 2014. Yap has been a vital squad member since the high-profile deal with Magnolia in 2017 when he was traded for shooting guard Paul Lee.
Yap’s later years with Rain or Shine were plagued by injuries, resulting in inconsistent appearances on the team’s roster throughout the last three years. Despite the difficulties, Yap valued the experiences, memories, and lessons he received while with the Elasto Painters.
Yap took to Instagram to announce the end of his career as an Elasto Painter, expressing his choice after much thought and prayer. He expressed profound gratitude to the team’s management for authorizing his departure and allowing him to begin the next chapter of his life.
As the current San Juan City councilor, Yap plans to pursue new possibilities while leaving a legacy of devotion and accomplishment with the Rain Person Shine brand. The basketball community now awaits “Big Game James’s” next step as he analyzes various choices inside the Philippine Basketball Association.
