Excited and Motivated Gilas Final 12 for Asian Games
As the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China, approach, interim coach Tim Cone and the Gilas Pilipinas squad are overjoyed and motivated. Cone has meticulously picked his Final 12 members for this continental tournament with little over a week to go. The most impressive part of this group is their constant desire to represent the Philippines on a global platform.

Tim Cone spoke up during an open practice session at the Philsports Arena, emphasizing the team’s ambition to play difficult opponents like China, Korea, Bahrain, and Jordan. He stressed that motivation is not an issue for these athletes; they are determined.
June Mar Fajardo, Japeth Aguilar, and Roger Pogoy were among the recognized faces from the FIBA World Cup. Calvin Abueva and Terrence Romeo, who joined Jason Perkins, Calvin Oftana, Chris Newsome, and Justin Brownlee in training, are notable comebacks.
While certain squad members were not there, including Scottie Thompson, Mo Tautuaa, Ange Kouame, and reserve player Stanley Pringle, Cone commended Pringle’s loyalty to the club, even though he does not have a position on the roster.
Former Gilas veteran LA Tenorio, who is recuperating from cancer, assisted Cone with his preparations.
The Asian Games are set to begin on September 23, with Gilas Pilipinas opening their campaign against Bahrain on September 26. Before heading for China, they will meet KBL team Changwon LG Sakers in a public tune-up contest on September 22.
Notably, the Gilas Pilipinas women’s squad, coached by Pat Aquino, is preparing for the Games alongside their male counterparts. This collaborative attitude and drive represent the Filipino love of basketball and the country’s intense devotion to international sporting tournaments.
