Surprise PBA All-Star: Dillinger Begs Fans to "Stop Voting For Me!"
In a modest and self-aware gesture, Barangay Ginebra veteran Jared Dillinger recently asked supporters to stop voting for him in this year’s PBA All-Star Game in Bacolod via his Twitter/X account. Dillinger appreciated the considerable support and noted that he is now ranked 27th in the All-Star vote. However, he asked fans to vote for other worthy players, stating that many people deserve the coveted PBA All-Star position more than he does.
Dillinger, a former Gilas Pilipinas player, boldly stated on social media, “It’s all over.” But please stop voting for me. Let’s be honest: I don’t deserve to be there.” This frank appeal demonstrates Dillinger’s humility and recognition of the potential in the PBA, as he invites fans to notice and support players who have exhibited outstanding performance worthy of an All-Star Game nomination.
The PBA’s unique voting method enables fans to choose 24 All-Stars, with both venue and online voting options available. However, beginning this year, the league added a new layer to the selection process by assigning four spaces to be determined by coaches and media. Notably, nine Ginebra players made the Top 24, with Japeth Aguilar, Scottie Thompson, Christian Standhardinger, LA Tenorio, and Jamie Malonzo winning the top five. Dillinger’s suggestion adds a unique storyline to the All-Star selection, stressing sportsmanship and the fair recognition of talented league players.
