Blackwater Offer to James Yap!

Blackwater Bossing boldly moves by extending a lucrative offer to James Yap

In a deliberate move to strengthen Blackwater Bossing’s forthcoming season, club owner Dioceldo Sy has publicly acknowledged that he has given an enticing offer to James Yap, a seasoned two-time PBA MVP. Despite Yap’s age of 41, Sy believes the experienced player still can perform admirably on the basketball floor.

During a critical meeting with business partners, Sy showed excitement about the prospective acquisition, saying, “I have an offer, but no news yet.” The team owner believes that a player of Yap’s ability does not quickly lose their natural skill. “He may be older and slower, but I still consider him as a greater player than others. He’s on a different level, and his expertise can assist our young players to become like him, or at least close to what he can and has accomplished,” remarked Sy, who previously had success in the former PBL in the late 1990s.

Sy sees Yap as a critical addition to the Blackwater roster, highlighting the team’s willingness to give him considerable playing time. “He may play 15 minutes or more for us as long as he wants. And knowing how much James appreciates training and being in shape, I am confident he will be an attacking weapon for us,” Sy said.

Yap’s recent tenure with Rain or Shine produced modest averages of 5 points and one rebound in 9.74 minutes in three games. However, Sy is undeterred, citing Yap’s potential alignment with the triangle offense under coach Jeffrey Cariaso.

Recognizing the competitive situation, Sy disclosed that three other teams, including ones from the Japan B.League, are vying for Yap’s signing. Despite the external interest, Sy believes Blackwater’s offer, which includes an endorsement deal with the Ever Bilena franchise, has a distinct attraction for the marketable talent.

“This is more than just James’ ability to draw fans. We want something larger for James. We want to offer James the career-ending he desires. We guarantee that he receives adequate playing time, making his last years as a player memorable for his supporters. And, sure, we are prepared to retire his jersey with us,” Sy said, emphasizing the importance of the offer beyond the court.

If Yap chooses to join Blackwater, he will be reunited with former Purefoods colleague Marc Pingris, an assistant coach with the Bossing. When asked about the possibility of Yap and Pingris retiring jerseys simultaneously, Sy said, “We’ll see. But it’s a good concept.

As discussions continue, basketball fans eagerly await the conclusion, aware of the possible influence of Yap’s choice on the 2018 PBA season. The stakes are enormous, and Blackwater Bossing’s audacious move has the potential to change the dynamic of Philippine basketball.
