The cooperation between LPU and Tier One Entertainment recognized as Southeast Asia’s best esports and gaming talent agency, was critical in creating the curriculum for the BS Esports program. Ms. Jennifer Tucpi, the Officer in Academic Affairs, and Atty. Roberto P. Laurel, the University President, made the introductory comments.

The Dean of LPU Manila College of Technology, Dr. Arlene Caballero, took the stage to discuss the “IT Career Path: Best Technology Jobs and Most In-demand Careers in Computing.” She emphasized the expanding prospects in information technology, giving positions such as Database Administrator, Web Developer, and Video Game Designer as examples. She also discussed the most in-demand computer abilities and the top ten highest-paying occupations in 2020.

Moving on to esports, Tier One Entertainment CEO Mr. Tryke Gutierrez took the stage with his presentation titled “Carving a Career Path in Esports.” He shared information on the history and pillars of the Southeast Asian Esports ecosystem. Mr. Gutierrez noted a significant difference: the curriculum was designed to foster professional employment on the backend of esports rather than pander to talents or streams. “This is not games,” he explained. “Esports is what it is.”

Mr. Gutierrez emphasized esports’ relevance as the digital world’s sports, describing it as the future, with forecasts predicting a $1.6 billion sector for esports globally by 2023. LPU Manila’s BS Esports program provides two specialized tracks: Esports Management and Game Design and Development. This comprehensive four-year program includes classes like Introduction to Esports and Esports Broadcasting and a supplementary credential for Associate in Computer Technology.

The Dean of the College of Technology announced that the BS Esports program will initially use an online flexible learning configuration for the first semester of the 2021-2022 academic year. Any move to blended learning would be subject to national government clearance. This forward-looking initiative is poised to equip students with the skills and knowledge required to thrive in esports’ dynamic and rapidly evolving landscape.
