Tyler Bey Stays Calm Amid Must-Win Scenario in PBA Commissioner's Cup Final
Tyler Bey stays calm as Magnolia faces the challenge of defeating San Miguel in two consecutive games to win the PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
Following a 108-98 loss to San Miguel in Game 5 of the playoffs at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday night, Bey displayed calm, reaffirming the team’s confidence in an uphill struggle.
“There is no pressure. We need to reproduce our performance from the previous two games,” Bey said, retaining a calm approach.
Bey is encouraged by the Hotshots’ ability to overcome a 0-2 hole in the best-of-seven series with successive victories in Games 3 and 4.
“I am confident about this conference. We’ve previously demonstrated that we can return from a 2-0 deficit, so why not do it again? We only need to win two more games,” said the former NBA player, who had 34 points and eight rebounds in the contest.
However, Bey emphasized the necessity of avoiding any of the Beermen from matching Jericho Cruz’s spectacular performance, in which he scored 30 points on an impressive 8-of-14 shooting from beyond the arc.
“We cannot afford to allow anyone to score 30 points against us like Cruz did tonight. “We must show respect to every player on their team,” Bey said.
Recognizing the dip in defensive effort, Bey remained confident in the Hotshots’ capacity to recover from adversity without fear.
“We are a powerful squad. Our backs may be against the wall, but I am completely confident in this team,” Bey said. “They may have the advantage right now, but that will not stop us. We’ll bounce back stronger.”
