E-Painters off to a rough start in Jones Cup
In the ongoing 42nd Jones Cup, E-Painters of Rain or Shine are yet to secure a victory.
Continuing their struggle, Rain or Shine’s winless streak extended to four games as they faced a 93-86 defeat against Qatar on Tuesday at the Taipei Heping Gymnasium.
In the first half, the Elasto Painters managed to maintain a slight advantage and found themselves in a closely contested match, tied 73-73 with Qatar with seven minutes remaining.
However, the situation took a turn when Qatar made a decisive 11-4 run, establishing an 84-77 lead that eventually led them to victory.

Qatar, now under the guidance of former Greek men’s national coach Thanasis Skourtopoulos, was propelled by their naturalized player Michael Lewis who contributed 19 points. Ndoye Seydou and Nedim Muslic also played pivotal roles, adding 18 and 12 points, respectively.
During the final quarter, Lewis and Muslic proved to be Rain or Shine’s main adversaries, accounting for 15 of Qatar’s 24 points.
With a win-loss record of 0-4, Rain or Shine is currently one of only two teams that have yet to secure a victory, the other being the idle Japan U-22 unit (0-3).
Import Nick Evans displayed an impressive performance for the Elasto Painters, recording 20 points, but he faced a significant drop in his output during the second half, scoring only four points.
Guard Anton Assistio continued to demonstrate consistency for Rain or Shine with 16 points, while big man Leonard Santillan contributed 12.
An altercation involving Nick Demusis and Haracic Meho occurred with 7:25 left in the game when the score was tied at 73.
Approaching the tournament’s midpoint, Rain or Shine still has four upcoming matches against Iran, the reigning champions of the Korean Basketball League (KBL) – Anyang KGC, Japan U-22 team, and the University of California, Irvine.
