RHJ and Yeng Guiao Fined

RHJ and Coach Yeng Guiao Fined!

The PBA Commissioner’s Office penalized Rondae Hollis-Jefferson P20,000 for his role in a late-game confrontation during last week’s PBA Commissioner’s Cup contest between Rain or Shine and TNT. The TNT import was penalized for approaching the Elasto Painters’ bench in the final 49 seconds of the tight game, seeking to confront a referee who had issued a foul on his brother, Rahlir Hollis-Jefferson, a TNT replacement import.

The event sparked a heated debate between Hollis-Jefferson, Rain or Shine coach Yeng Guiao, and other Elasto Painters players. In reaction to the penalties, the former NBA player apologized at a meeting with PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial, promising that such behavior “will never happen again.” Hollis-Jefferson apologized to Coach Yeng, the Rain or Shine squad, and all PBA fans.

While league rules prohibit the 29-year-old Jordan naturalized player from playing for TNT again in the same conference after being substituted twice, the PBA reaffirmed that Hollis-Jefferson will be part of the Tropang Giga’s East Asia Super League (EASL) team. Because TNT represents the PBA in the EASL, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson is still considered a player hired by the telecommunications franchise and is entitled to participate in the EASL, according to Commissioner Marcial.

“Sa EASL, siyang maglaro,” Marcial confirmed, alluding to Rondae Hollis-Jefferson, who serves as the TNT import in the EASL alongside his brother Rahlir.

Guiao was also penalized P10,000 for making an indecent gesture, wildly flashing the former NBA star the middle finger. Rain or Shine won the game with a total score of 119-112, advancing them to the quarterfinals.

TNT’s defeat was costly, as it was their third in a row, leaving them with a 4-6 record and ensuring eighth place in the rankings.
