Cone Approves LA Tenorio's Long-Awaited PBA Return
Tim Cone, the coach of Barangay Ginebra, is looking forward to the return of veteran point guard LA Tenorio to the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) court. Tenorio, who has been out due to a sports hernia and a fight with colon cancer, is ready to make his PBA Commissioner’s Cup debut.

Cone voiced his faith in Tenorio’s readiness, adding that the seasoned player has no limitations. Cone told the Inquirer on Friday, “We will throw him out there and let him dictate how much time he gets.” Tenorio made the announcement immediately after sharing his joy on Instagram about his impending comeback to the game.
The reigning champion Gin Kings, captained by Tenorio, is set to play the Terrafirma Dyip, who presently have a 2-3 record, at Pasig City’s newly renovated PhilSports Arena. Tenorio has a unique connection to the arena because he is primarily regarded as the league’s most durable player, having established the PBA record for most consecutive games played with 744.
Tenorio’s journey has been highlighted by eight PBA titles and four Finals Most Valuable Player medals. He was called the “Ironman” of the league, and last appeared on the court on Feb. 19 in a dominant victory over Blackwater at the same stadium where he is set to make his comeback.
Tenorio expressed appreciation on Instagram, acknowledging his health struggles’ tremendous influence on his outlook. In a letter, he said, “Since my diagnosis, I have lifted everything to God, knowing that life is more than basketball and more than the game.” Tenorio reaffirmed his dedication to living a life of optimism, gratitude, contentment, humility, and faith as he reflected on his journey.
Tenorio, who has been in remission for almost two months, thanks God’s Healing Grace for allowing him to navigate surgery and cancer treatment successfully.
“He’s fit and ready to go,” Coach Cone said of Tenorio’s preparation for his return. He’s been working with us for a month now. We’re excited to have his leadership back on the field.” Cone is particularly enthusiastic about the return of Tenorio’s imposing presence and control on the floor, in addition to his trademark floater and playmaking abilities.
As the PBA community awaits Tenorio’s return, the overall attitude is gratitude for his tenacity, optimistic perspective, and fantastic path that has brought him back to the heart of the game he loves.
