Robbie Herndon, playing in the series for the first time, also made some big baskets in overtime to help the Beermen win.
Game 3 Preview
San Miguel could have been up 2-0 in the series if Jayson Castro hadn’t made a last-second shot in Game One that gave TNT an 86-84 win. Even though San Miguel won last Wednesday and had six players score ten or more points, coach Leo Austria told the Beermen to stay alert for the game.
“I’m still thinking na Talk ‘N Text is a tremendously strong squad,” Austria added. “Well-oiled machine, well-coached,” Because they’ve been together for so long, they know how to run their plays. This Talk ‘N Text is terrifying. I’m sure they will come back and come back. They are prepared with everything.”
“Even though coach Chot isn’t there, we know the basics of what they’re doing have been set. “They are very dangerous,” Austria said.
The Beermen have the upper hand regarding momentum, though, because their 109-100 win evened the best-of-seven championship series at 1-1.
“Something happened in the first half that seems to be bothering Mikey. Still, Talk’ N Text is hard to beat. “I’m sure there will be many changes for the next game,” said the Austria Beermen head coach.
Austria hopes Manuel and Mo Tautuaa will do as well in Game Two as they did in Game One. The two held down the paint, giving June Mar Fajardo time to rest during the game.
Mikey Williams could only score seven points, which was his lowest point in the conference. However, Austria thinks he will make changes and be healthier after hurting his ankle in the first quarter.
Gilas Pilipinas’ game against Lebanon in the Fiba Basketball World Cup Asia qualifiers is over, and head coach Chot Reyes is returning to the Philippines. It means that TNT will have to play without him again.
Players Goal Scorers
June Mar Fajardo had a massive game 3 in the PBA Philippine Cup finals 2022. He scored 27 points and grabbed 27 rebounds, called a “monster double.”
CJ Perez set the tone for the win with 23 points, and Manuel and Lassiter finished it with 20 and 19 points, respectively, as they led their breakaway in the fourth quarter.
Vic Manuel was a big surprise for San Miguel after he scored 20 points, which was the most any San Miguel player had ever scored in the playoffs.
Roger Pogoy carried the Tropang Giga with 28 points and perfect 6-for-10 shooting from three-point range, but it wasn’t enough for Talk N Text Players to win Game 2 as they did in Game 1.
Mikey Williams scored only 7 points, a far cry from his average of 19.7 points, which led the league.
