The top-seeded Tropang Giga and the Magnolia Hotshots are playing in the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals. Jayson Castro took control of the game with a game-winning three-pointer in the final seconds to seal a 93-92 victory in front of a large Sunday crowd at the Smart Araneta Coliseum with TNT on the verge of a Game 3 loss and a crucial 1-2 series deficit.

There, “The Blur” is devoted to assisting TNT to win a second consecutive All-Filipino championship and increase his trophy tally.

Following Mark Barroca’s clutch basket, which gave the Hotshots a two-point lead, Castro’s game-winning basket came off a blitz as the Tropang Giga was forced to bring the ball down from the other end of the court without a timeout.

Jayson Castro Named PBA Player of the Week

Midway through the Final Four, he was selected as the Cignal Play-PBA Press Corps Player of the Week, thanks to such triumphant play.

The 36-year-old guard scored 17.7 points in three games over the past week on a startling 73% shooting rate, in addition to 3.7 assists and 3.3 rebounds. They made him the league’s first back-to-back and two-time weekly award winner.

Additionally, he played a unique leadership role in helping the defending Philippine Cup champion advance to the championship round by winning the best-of-seven series 4-2.

“It is still a good shot for me, in my opinion, whether you hit it or miss it. That is the name of the defensive unit. As a veteran, I can relate to that. At the same time, Game Three is still a possibility, according to Castro.

“As a player, I have been in this team for 14 or 15 years, ‘that’s my mentality — to win another championship, and at the same time ‘my legacy here, that’s what I want to be an example for the new players coming here,” said Castro.

In the victory in Game 3, the seasoned playmaker ended with 16 points, two rebounds, and six assists. He contributed 12 points, five rebounds, and five assists to TNT’s 108-96 victory in Game 1 before scoring 17 points, eight rebounds, and five assists in a hard-fought 92-88 loss in Game 2.

Jayson Castro, a seven-time champion and twice Finals MVP, defeated teammates Mikey Williams, CJ Perez, and June Mar Fajardo of San Miguel, for the weekly award given by the people who regularly cover the PBA.

Castro’s TNT teammates Poy Erram and RR Pogoy, Meralco’s Chris Newsome, Cliff Hodge, Allein Maliksi, and Raymond Almazan were all nominated for the weekly plum given out by the people who routinely cover the PBA.
