Barangay Ginebra's Unstoppable win Streak with fourth Consecutive Victory tying with San Miguel Beermen in the PBA Governors' Cup Standings 2023
On Sunday, Barangay Ginebra won their fourth straight game, defeating Converge FiberXers 120-101 in the PBA Governors’ Cup elimination at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig. Despite missing important players, Ginebra won the game because of a strong effort from Jamie Malonzo, who scored 29 points, and Justin Brownlee and Christian Standhardinger, who each contributed 28 points.
While Converge’s prolific import Jamaal Franklin was there, he could only contribute a little, scoring just four points on five field-goal tries. Ginebra’s win helped them catch up to the San Miguel Beermen, who are now second in the rankings with a 7-2 record.
Converge FiberXers, on the other hand, lost their third straight loss and concluded the eliminations with a 6-5 closing tally, removing them from contention for the Top 4. Despite playing their fourth game in seven nights, Malonzo performed well, contributing eight rebounds and five assists in 35:36 minutes of action.
Ginebra coach Tim Cone praised his squad’s attitude, adding that despite the absence of important players Japeth Aguilar and LA Tenorio, his team stood up and performed excellently. Cone also emphasized Standhardinger’s outstanding performance and how he has improved in Aguilar’s absence.
The Kings scored more points than the FiberXers each quarter, extending their winning run to four games. With a strong probability of finishing in the Top 4, Ginebra seeks a twice-to-beat incentive in the quarterfinals.
The game’s scoring was as follows: Ginebra 120: Malonzo 29, Brownlee 28, Standhardinger 28, Gray 16, Thompson 5, Pinto 4, R.Aguilar 4, Pringle 3, Onwubere 3, Pessumal 0, Dillinger 0; Converge 101: Ahanmisi 24, Teng 12, Murrell 11, Arana 11, Stockton 10, Tratter 9, Racal 7, Balanza 7, Franklin 4, Ebona 3, Tolomia 3.
Will they succeed to get the trophy again?
