June Mar Fajardo is still the best player in the PBA when he is healthy.
The San Miguel Beer mainstay won Sunday’s Philippine Cup Best Player of the Conference award. He beat out teammate CJ Perez, the reigning MVP Scottie Thompson of Barangay Ginebra, and late entry Mikey Williams of TNT.
Fajardo got 1,119 points and won both the statistics (501 points) and media votes (537 points). He tied with Williams for the players’ votes (81 points each).
Perez finished far behind in second place with 776 points. He was second in both statistics (474 points) and media votes (257 points), and he was third in player votes (45 points).
June Mar Fajardo First BPC Award
It was Fajardo’s first BPC award since the 2019 all-Filipino conference. That was a year before he broke his right tibia in a way that kept him out of action for a whole season.
Fajardo is only in his third conference since his injury, but making the Mythical First Team last year showed that he is getting back into shape.
The BPC award also put the 6-foot-10 center in a solid position to win the MVP award again. From 2014 to 2019, he won the MVP award six times in a row, but Thompson beat him out last season.
Fajardo’s seventh Philippine Cup Title
It was Fajardo’s seventh Philippine Cup BPC title, and he won it six times in a row from 2014 to 2019. Stanley Pringle of Barangay Ginebra got the prized plum while he was out with an injury during the all-Filipino bubble in Clark.
Overall, it was the 32-year-ninth old’s BPC title. He went to the University of Cebu.
Williams came in third with 610 points, and the statistics and media votes put him at No. 3.
Thompson was fourth with 468 points, and Aguilar was second with 415 points.
